South Polar Skua: This bird was photographed while on a Pelagic Trip on the Osprey out of South Padre Island on 10/1/04 (Cameron County). It wasn't until 10/7/04 that it was confirmed by Martin Reid to be a Skua . Martin came to our house and copied the pictures for comments on his web site. The following week I was contacted by Mark Lockwood who asked permission to use the picture of the Skua in "North America Birds".  The photo was published in the November issue of NAB. This was the first documented record of this bird for Texas and the Gulf of Mexico.
